Literature Text
life is a bittersweet drink that has
twisted itself up in sugar, rather like guitar notes
hiding behind words
we all hide behind words, for they can
stand on their own
they never said unrequited love was
this heavy, but what about
unrequited hope - is that
more irrelevant than the tucked wings
of damselflies?
oh and focus has never been in one piece
never the type you could fork up and eat
so I think it'd be pretty right about now
while it's gone, if I could
wrap my hands around your shoulders
whisper lyrics into your ear
carve a space in the air for my legs to fit
around your waist just right
quiet falls on the tip of my tongue
don't you think I was made
to listen,
to hold things that I can't explain
and don't you think
that I was just made to
write you into fifteen different poems about
love?

I was playing with matches. Letting the flame lick and dance and gutter in the wind. Letting it almost touch the paint on my front door. Daring it to peel away.
The heat from the tiny flame was scratching at the tip of my thumb and I wondered, could I absorb it? If I let it burn a little further down the match, will the fire rush in and fill the dark and cold space that is me?

Love-making over, she rested her head on my shoulder and whispered into my neck. As I was falling asleep she breathed "I will always come back to you."

Harvest Moon
You remind me of the harvest moon
tugging the shore from beneath my feet, of
rowing out to sea in winter with empty nets
till spring, of catching every breath
in crystals on the same forgotten docks,
Where gravity knots my tendons into rope,
my teeth into chalk and ash, and my eyes
into searchlights scanning the horizon
for the first ship that leads to you.
